The first league of next year is Winter League beginning on 29th January. Matches take place on Sunday mornings (usually at 11am) with 3 doubles pairings, 6 players, making up each team. The group stage runs for five weeks with playoffs following that if the team has qualified.
 
Last year we had 7 teams with no promotions or relegations occurring- Class 2 (1 team), Class 4 (3 teams), Class 6 (2 teams) and Class 7 (1 team) and the plan is to enter the same number of teams again.
 
If you are interested in playing or subbing for Winter League this year can you please email me (reynolr84@hotmail.com) or sign the sheet currently pinned to the noticeboard in the club lobby. If you haven't played league before this is a great chance to get involved and anyone with an interest in playing competitively is encouraged to sign up. Please state your preferred partner if applicable, if you are looking for a partner then note that.
 
In terms of preparation and selection of league teams there are a few different elements being put in place to assist this and find optimum pairings:
 
1) The men's doubles ladder is being re-introduced. Each team previously were on the ladder with 9 pairings opting to stay on the ladder. I would encourage all doubles pairing to enter the ladder via the use of a captain's challenge; the same rules apply as on the singles ladder. It's a great way to get practice and helps to select teams for league. If you would like to join this ladder but are unsure how to or where to challenge please get in touch.
 
If you would like to join the ladder but do not have a partner then let me know as well as making sure you come down to the forthcoming practice and coaching sessions to meet others looking for a new partner.
 
2) Doubles coaching/practice will get going next month, after Floodlight League finishes, with the club coaches focusing on different elements of the doubles game. More details will follow.
 
3) A doubles round robin will be run amongst the different doubles teams who have their name down for league during January. This will help rank the teams as well as offering new partnerships a chance for match practice.
 
So to reiterate, please sign up for Winter League as early as possible so we can gauge interest, put in place coaching and name the different teams early enough to allow people to practice together.
