Men's Floodlight League Week 3 Summary

Some top performances this week with all teams scoring points:

- Team 1 (Class 2) picked up their first point of the season in unfortunate circumstances as David Boland's opponent injured himself on court and had to give a walkover as he was sent by ambulance to hospital. The other 2 teams has both won the first set but saw the matches swing in momentum after an hour long interval for the injury and both 3-setters were ultimately lost. A positive performance from the team though who will no doubt be battling hard to stay in Class 2 for next season, starting away to Monkstown 2 next week. Thanks to Andrea Lai for subbing.

- Team 2 (Class 4) won for the third week in a row, this time against their closest challengers Ratoath 1 away. Simone De Colle (c) recovered from a first set lapse to win the second two sets in convincing style while Marco Buzzi and Conor Burke were off court for the loss of just 2 games. All 3 players have yet to lose a rubber. A win next week at home to Portmarnock 2 will ensure a play-off place for the team.

- Team 3 (Class 4) got a valuable point in a difficult away game against a strong Templeogue 4. This came courtesy of Jari Zikavsky who continued his perfect record this season with a straight sets singles victory while the other two rubbers were competitive but ended up going the way of Templeogue. Castleknock 5 away is up next for the team in a group that looks like a three-horse race between Templeogue, MP and Sandycove.

- Team 4 (Class 4) got their first win of the season in dramatic circumstances. Etienne Paillard continued his great form with a third win on the trot in straight sets (his opponent afterwards quote "My ambition for the match was just to get him to take his tracksuit top off") while Ross Reynolds/Alan Connolly lost a topsy turvy match in 3 sets. It was left to Tom Fox to battle for the victory and he did so coming back from 3-5 (15-40) in the deciding set to take it 7-5. An excellent performance and much needed victory. In a tight group next week is a crunch home game against group leaders Deerpark 2.

- Team 5 (Class 5) had their first home match of the season against Swords 2 and came away with a 2-1 win. Cathal O'Rourke won for the second week on the trot and was joined on the winner's podium by Daniel Kavanagh who used his (at least) 1 foot height advantage over his opponent to full effect. Two more wins would leave the team in with a shout of play-off place, starting next week at home to Stackallen 2.

Best of luck to all next week
