***Men's League Practice and Floodlight League 2011***

All Mount Pleasant Tennis Players,

We have been discussing the forthcoming league campaigns amongst the tennis committee and with our club coaches in order to come up with an cohesive plan for all of the men's league teams over the next year.

Over the past number of campaigns there have been a number of problems in being competitive across the various class standards; namely that there has not been enough interest and commitment from members to play and that teams have not been named and posted early enough before the season begins. Ideally a club of our size should have a team in each class (including Premier!) which would give all tennis members an opportunity to participate.

As such a more organised approach is now to be implemented, particularly for the three central leagues (Summer, Winter and Floodlight):

- Early contact with the member body asking for interest in playing in a forthcoming league
- Practice under the supervision of one of the club coaches for anyone who is interested in playing league one night a week- subsidised initially by the club
- Early nomination of teams and substitutes a number of weeks before the league begins to allow players to practice and get to know each other
- Competitions to be run between different teams running up to league campaigns and team hitting

To begin this process:

1) You are invited to attend the first open league practice on Monday 22nd August at 7.30pm The next league is the Floodlight League beginning October 3rd in which Mount Pleasant are entering 5 men's teams (1 x Class 2, 3 x Class 4, 1 x Class 5) as per last year. If you are interested in playing you are encouraged to come down to have a hit and get to know other members who are of a similar standard. We have a number of new players in the last year who can help raise the bar for us in terms of winning leagues and getting promotion who can benefit from this.

It should be noted that all are welcome at this session. While you may not be of Class 5 and above standard, the Winter League begins in January which includes classes 1-7 and anyone interested in that can only benefit from attending these sessions, playing with those of a higher standard and being in contact with the club coaches.

If you are not available this Monday please note that the next practice is scheduled on Monday 29th August at 7.30pm to continue once a week (breaking during the Club Championships) for the next few months as follows:
Session 1: Monday 22th August
Session 2: Monday 29th August
Sesison 3: Monday 19th September
Session 4: Monday 26th September
Session 5: Saturday 1st October
League Begins: Monday 3rd October

2) If you are interested in playing Floodlight League please let Mikael Nilsson or Ross Reynolds know by September 9th at the latest. This will facilitate naming teams 3 weeks before the first matches. Floodlight league begins on October 3rd and matches are played on a Monday night. There are 4 on each team with a draw on the night to see which two on the team play singles and which two play doubles.

Finally if you would like to assist with the organisation and running of teams (captain) and sessions then this would be appreciated.

Queries and comments are welcomed.

Best regards,

Mikael & Ross
