Ladies Summer League - Team 2, 3 & 5 Playoffs

It was a stunning summers evening last night to witness all the tension (not to mention tennis!), as Team 2 played their Class 2 Quarter Final and Team 5 played their Class 5 playoff. It was the doubles for both teams that crossed the finish line first with Team 2 securing 2 points and one apiece for Team 5. So it was all eyes glued to the singles as Monkstown got their first point against Team 2 and it was all down to Laura and Grainne on showcourts 1 and 2! Meanwhile, Jane H got Team 5 their 2nd point as the 2 remaining singles entered their 3rd set and unfortunately it was Sutton who came out smiling at the end. A very narrow defeat for Team 5 but a great campaign to qualify from their group, roll on next year!

So no pressure on Grainne and Laura as they progressed through their 3rd sets, neck and neck with their junior opponents. In the end it was Miss Shilling on Court 1 with a 3rd set epic tie break that brought home victory and a place in the Class 2 semi final!! Grainne looked slightly pleased she didn't have to finish her match!

A huge thank you to all the supporters who made it out last night and stayed til the bitter end to keep our girls going. I have received messages all morning commending the heart and spirit that these players showed last night so we are massively proud of this achievement with just one more match to play for promotion to Class 1!

Team 3 take on Celbridge 1 in the Class 3 Quarter Final in Mount Pleasant on Saturday at 11am. As the Open will be in full swing on saturday, there is going to be terrific atmosphere for this match and the fine weather looks set to stay so do come down to support!
