Tennis Championship Up-date
07 September 2010
Last weekend saw the start of the Championships in slightly damp, and occasionally wet, conditions. There was some great tennis played and congrats to those who managed to make ground on the ladders. The record for largest ladder jump was definitely broken on Saturday with a move of 50 places!
On Monday the damp conditions got damper and, as the courts flooded at 6pm, the first session was postponed. Luckily, the rain eased off, the puddles drained and we did manage to get a few matches out for the 7.30 session. Feedback was that “it wasn’t so bad once you got out” and people admitted to enjoying themselves despite the conditions!
Unfortunately the forecast is predicting more showery weather for the next few days and unless the courts flood matches will go ahead as planned. Please note that thanks to the good drainage systems, flooded courts can drain in about 15mins if the rain lightens off. So we may delay the start of matches rather than postpone until another day. We would like to thank everybody for their patience and understanding as we try to manage the schedule, we can’t unfortunately manage the weather !
Finally, we would like to remind all players to keep an eye on the web, or the notice board in the club, for the times of your matches.
